The man-made reservoir of Lake Hartwell lies on the border of South Carolina and Georgia. There is a dam on the Savannah River. At normal elevation, the lake covers almost 56,000 acres and 962 miles of shoreline. Interstate 85 runs over the lake making it easy to access. It is owned and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.


Lake Hartwell is great for fishing, boating, water sports, wildlife enjoyment and its recreation areas provide camping, biking trails, and swimming opportunities. There are over 45 boat ramps.
